Social
Skills 101
Give your child the benefit of extra practice making friends and
meeting new people this summer at The Joy School! This program is
designed to give children an opportunity to learn and develop
appropriate social skills in a small group setting. Classes will
focus on initiating conversations, keeping conversations going,
social problem solving, turn-taking, game playing, perspective
taking, body language, self-monitoring and much more. The concept of
social thinking will be introduced and explained through the use of
Michelle Garcia Winner’s Super Flex curriculum.
Each week, we will discuss the “hidden rules” and
expectations associated with various social settings (i.e. book
stores, restaurants, museums…).
In order to facilitate carry-over of learned skills, students
will participate in weekly field trips to these places.
This summer we will be offering this great course to younger grades
as well, breaking the students into a younger and older group.
