THE KEY TO THE FUTURE:

The objective of the Key to the Future Capital Campaign is to fund the creation of a true campus with permanent facilities and the capacity to expand enrollment from 112 to up to 180 students. This plan also endorses the vision of TJS to increase its community impact, sharing experience-based practices and innovative curriculum with educators through workshops and seminars in its expanded space.

THE GOAL:

To raise $9.5 million to fund the full construction of an expanded campus. The goal for groundbreaking on Phase One – the academic and administration buildings – is summer 2012.

THE NEED:

At its inception, The Joy School served just four students. Today, The School serves 112 children in Kindergarten through the 8^th grade and is at maximum capacity for our current facility. Despite its growth, for every child accepted at The Joy School, 3-5 students are turned away due to lack of space. The Joy School cannot enroll more students until more classrooms and support areas are added.

If The Joy School is to continue to meet the needs of Houston area students with learning differences, and to make a significant impact in their lives, we must expand and improve our facilities.

THE SOLUTION:  A NEW JOY SCHOOL CAMPUS

Phase One:

-Purchase of two land parcels for $1.4 million total (purchase has been completed)

-Construction of a two-story building for academic and administrative space for $6.1 million.  Building includes:

• 28 Classrooms

• 5 Learning Resource Rooms

• Training and Conference Room

• School Administrative Offices

Phase Two:

-Construction of a two-story building for multipurpose active learning for approximately $1.8 million

• Cafetorium/Extracurricular spaces

• Girls and Boys Locker rooms

• Warming Kitchen

• Playing fields, outdoor play space, ample parking
