The Joy School Goes the Extra Mile

BY LAURA SPAULDING Staff Writer / Educational Consultant

The Joy School has gone the extra mile, quite literally! Our running team, The Joy School Runners, participated in our debut race - The Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness 5K. Students, parents, and staff laced up their running shoes, not only racing for a cure but together raising an impressive $2,905.16. This small contribution to breast cancer research echoes the school's commitment to giving back to the community even as we build a sense of belonging and worth for our students. Also worth mentioning, our team clinched first place in step counting with the Susan G. Komen app.

The Joy School Runners plan to continue connecting with Houston communities and with one another by participating in more Houston community races. We are currently preparing for the Girls on the Run Houston program at Rice University, aiming to provide shoes for underprivileged young female runners.

The Joy School Runners Club invites all members of the Joy family to join them in their future community races. There are no commitments or obligations involved- just sign up, show up, and support your school and community as you run alongside other Joy School staff and families. Our final race for this semester is the Holiday Santa Run as part of the Run Houston Series in Sugarland, and we are planning on attending three additional races in the Spring. If you are interested in joining our team or would like more information, please get in touch with our running team coordinator at fmithani@thejoyschool.org.
