Middle School Curriculum

Our middle school program focuses on preparing students for high school by integrating targeted academics with advanced executive functioning and study skills.

Academic instruction is provided in all core subject areas including Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health, and Physical Education.

A variety of elective classes are offered to middle school students including a selection of visual art, physical education, digital media production, student leadership, and technology classes.

Assistive technologies and other learning accommodations are individually matched to each student’s needs, enabling them to grow in continued self-awareness and self-advocacy skills as they progress toward high school readiness and independence.

All students are exposed to a variety of study skills and executive functioning strategies to help them succeed in academic settings such as note-taking, study guides, research skills, and time management.

Through the Keys to Success framework, middle school students refine their self-reliance, self-advocacy, and self-motivation by learning to manage long-term projects, adapt to challenges, consider diverse perspectives, and lead with empathy.

By Eighth grade, students demonstrate independence, accountability, and the confidence to navigate the academic and social challenges of high school, serving as role models for their peers and younger students.

Below is a sample of the curriculum, resources, and technologies used by our middle school teachers to effectively prepare students for high school and beyond.

This list is not meant to be an endorsement for any certain curriculum, nor an exhaustive list of every resource available for teaching students with learning differences and disabilities. Rather, each teacher pulls from a variety of tested resources and expertise to create a targeted learning experience for every student.
